Slip n’ slide

The Dell’Osso Farms Snow Tube Mountain is not quite a true mountain. It’s a 3-story-tall, ramp-shaped mound of dirt covered with man-made snow. Tube riders, take a moving walkway up the hill to a staging area at the top to await their turn at speeding down the slippery slope. Employees at the top wait for the riders to reach the bottom and clear from the landing area, then they shove new riders down the hill. Screams and laughter can be heard all the way down.

The former Manteca Waterslides, a popular summer attraction, was located only a few miles away from the Dell’Osso’s site. To beat the heat people, young and old would zip down the water-filled tubes. But the slides were closed down several years ago to make way for housing developments (much of which has yet to materialize). A few years later, the smaller Golfland waterslides in Stockton were also shut down in favor of a strip mall, leaving the county with no such attraction.

In Lathrop, Dell’Osso Farms has brought back the waterslide, albiet using frozen water.
