Blast from the past: Lemons into lemonade

Given our current drought conditions, we certainly need the recent rains that have fallen the last few days. Still, we have to be careful of getting too much of a good thing.

14-year-old Tim Bellingham, left, and 17-year-old Greg Decker enjoy a leisurely paddle along Serenade Lane and Virtue Arc Drive in Stockton, after rains flooded the street turning it into a small lake.

In 1988, I was sent out to cover street flooding during a rainstorm in Stockton. The rain was subsiding when I arrived on scene and as city crews worked to unclog drains, two teens decided to think creatively. One of them broke out an inflatable raft and they paddled about on the impromptu lake. It was an example of making the best of a situation.
