In 2005 The Record built a new printing facility to house a new TKS offset press.  It replaced an aged letterpress one, which was probably built around the time of Guttenberg. The joke around the office was that with the old press, acutally built in 1956, we should give away a pair of 3-D glasses with each paper. The press workers did their best, but given what they had to deal with, there was only so much they could do.

With the new press, photos looked great. The color was true and the registration accurate. Details that were only a dream in days past, now could be seen with clarity. A redesign of the paper went along with the new press, and after a few start-up glitches the new look was well received. We were understandably proud of we were able to do.

The other day a tagger sprayed graffiti on the front of the new building. It angered me to think that someone could do that after all the improvements that we made. At least he was nice enough to use a color that matches the building’s trim.
