Nice to meet you?

It’s hard sometimes to make friends, especially when the other person doesn’t want to cooperate. My daughter is slowly realizing this the more we go out in public. She is a total sanguine: loves people, loves to talk and is generally a happy child. I see the bewildered look on her face when she approaches another child and they don’t say hello back. She tries again, louder. Maybe they didn’t hear her or see her waving? She sticks out her hand as says “Nice to meet you.” The kid just stares at her like she is an alien. I meet the mother and then I understand. They aren’t shy, they’re just not friendly. Maybe it was a bad day? Who knows. But it does seem like more people are socially withdrawn. Then, there are others who smile and greet the world with open hearts, in turn, seizing great opportunities.
