I came home the other night, a little after midnight. The house was dark except for a small glint of light coming from the bathroom down the hallway. I peeked in a saw my husband shaving his head! He smiled. I was a bit shocked. He had mentioned that he was going to shave his head “just to try it out.” Odd, I thought, since he is a retired Marine and had years of basically no hair. I wasn’t sure if I liked it. But I helped him with some of the tufts he missed.
It took me a few days to adjust. I did like it afterall. Not bad. Made him look a bit tougher even.
All our family and friends on Facebook had excited reactions and comments. “What does your daughter think of his bald head?” Some asked. I didn’t know. She hadn’t seen him yet.
I remember freaking out as a kid when my dad shaved off his beard and mustache once. Scarring.
My daughter’s reaction was more nonchalant: “What happened your hair?” “I cut it off,” her father replied. “OK,” she said and walked away. I laughed. I thought she’d think it was a bit more dramatic.
