Iron Mike Tyson and the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors

Mike Tyson has been around town, lately, making appearances and doing his show at the Bob Hope Theatre.

One of the stops was at Edison High School, where he appeared with Supervisor Carlos Villapudua and Tom Patti, a long-time friend of Tyson’s who is also running for the Board of Supervisors in 2016.

A video posted by Allen Sawyer shows the event, with Villapudua introducing Patti, who introduces Tyson. The former heavy-weight champion told the students that success was in their grasp, but they needed to work to achieve it. “If I can do this stuff, anybody can do it. But you’ve got to put forth the effort.”

He also talked about his becoming a good person. After Tyson had reached the heights of success and fame as a boxer, his steep decent included bankruptcy and a rape conviction. He has since been building back his fame, including with a popular one-man stage show, which is what he performed at the Bob Hope.

Along the way, he stopped at Edison High, which is in the supervisorial district Villapudua represents. Tyson also stopped at East Union High in Manteca, which is in the district Patti will be running for in two years.

Here’s the video:
