Graphic and moving display of housing crisis

San Joaquin County’s GIS division of the Community Development Department released a collection of graphics showing the peaks and depths of foreclosures that have ravaged people and the economy in the county over the past several years. Business reporter Reed Fujii had a story about the graphics, today. And you can find all the graphics on the GIS website.

We’ve seen this crisis unfold, piece by piece, from the heady heights of the housing market to a time when it seemed like you couldn’t drive around some neighborhoods without seeing a moving van outside a foreclosed home.

This minute-long video shows those years, with each foreclosure a bomb blast, flaring up for a moment, leaving behind a growing, grey mountain of the total number of foreclosures, in each area, as they accumulate.
