New wine-rules change opponent pours it on

Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau has entered the fray over a controversial revision to county wine rules intended to be a moratorium on adding future so-called marketing events at rural wineries and wine cellars.

The Visitors Bureau weighs in against the changes in this letter to the Board of Supervisors from George Kaplanis, president of the Visitor’s Bureau and GM of Stockton Hilton.

“Our Stockton hotel industry sees a direct economic benefit from wineries and wine related events in Lodi,” he writes. “Preventing the growth of wine tourism in San Joaquin County will not only impact future revenues and taxes in Stockton, but put our region at a disadvantage in the ever competitive California wine tourism market.”

Here’s the rest of the letter: stocktoncvb
