Warden responds to staff

DVI Warden Socorro Salinas writes a monthly Warden’s Message, which is sent out to employees. The Record requested and reviewed the most recent six month’s worth.

In July’s Salinas responded to the OIG report, which showed that she is unpopular. She received 21 percent approval rating from custody staff and 36 percent of her overall employees approved.

She says in the middle of her message:

Now I would like to take a moment to mention the Inspector General’s recent DVI Warden’s Annual Review. I KNOW I cannot be everything to everyone. I KNOW there are things I have initiated that do not please every employee here at DVI. Numerous staff members provided input to the people who conducted interviews of staff here, and the results were quite varied. All I can say is that I am trying as hard as you are to succeed in our chosen career. I am committed to success, and I know that my success is your success. In order for DVI to succeed, we as a team need to be cohesive and strive for the same goals. A safe environment that affords all of us the means to provide for our families and achieve our personal goals without inhibiting the goals of others. To be able to come to work, to our respective compliance with rule, regulations, policy and law should be something we all think about on a regular basis. Do that and the disciplinary process will be a non-issue to you for your entire career.

There are staff who work their whole career without getting themselves involved with the investigatory process. Then there are others who seem to find themselves under investigation at various times throughout their career. SOME of those circumstances MAY be considered more than a coincidence. Food for thought.
