Blog changes today

You’ll notice a couple significant changes to our blog lineup this morning.

In response to David Siders’ departure, Daniel Thigpen is taking over the Stockton City Hall Blog.

The headers have been changed out. The blog authors have been reassigned. And David’s bio has been removed from the Stockton City Hall Blog, which you’ll now notice no longer includes his name.

We make changes like this with a heavy heart. David will be missed greatly here at The Record. Mike Klocke said it best in a blog post a couple weeks ago. David is an amazing reporter and, on the online level, an epic blogger.

Daniel will now take over primary posting on the Stockton City Hall Blog.

His contact information is dthigpen@recordnet.com or (209) 546-8254. He can be reached on Twitter @thigpenrecord. Dan also maintains an active Facebook at Facebook.com/thigpenrecord account which he has started the transition process from Lodi updating to Stockton City news updating.

Daniel previously reported on the Lodi City beat, but also served as the primary reporter for the Sandra Cantu coverage in Tracy last year.

In my 18 months as online editor, Daniel is the only reporter I’ve ever received a call from at 2 a.m. to post a story online. That was when Melissa Huckaby was arrested. The newspaper’s deadline had already passed. We needed something on the web immediately. I woke up and drove from Tracy to Stockton where Dan fed me a story and photos for the online-only story. He was efficient and prepared – and I’m sure at that point he was working on hardly any sleep.

I look forward to working with Daniel in his new role. You – city officials, residents and valued readers – should too.
