Auto blog feed now on Recordnet.com front page

So I’ll admit, I’m pretty excited about this one.

Less than an hour ago, a blog widget went live on Recordnet.com that pulls the latest blog entries to the front page.

You may be scratching your head a little, thinking that we already had links to blogs on our front page. That’s true. But in order to change the featured blogs, we’d have to continuously update our front page.

That’s not the case anymore.

The blog widget will pull recent posts from our new WordPress blogs, currently hosted at eSanJoaquin.com.

The module, which sits under our special reports area and side-by-side with a new, expanded “Featured Columnists” list looks like this:

Why the change?

The Recordnet.com staff continues to look for ways to better serve our readers. I get several suggestions, via Twitter, Facebook, email and phone about ways we can improve our site. We’re listening.

The blog widget allows our readers easy access to their favorite bloggers by alerting them that a new blog has been posted. It also expands the offerings on the front page. Where we were once limited to only having two featured blogs, the new widget pulls five.

The hope is that it makes the viewing/reading experience more enjoyable, while, perhaps, exposing our readers to more what what Recordnet.com and the newsroom staff at The Record has to offer.

As always, if you have comments, feel free to email me at tcuslidge@recordnet.com.
