A dog is a great companion for a hockey game

How can you not like a sports venue that allows you to bring along your dog? That’s exactly what the Stockton Thunder did last Sunday, allow pet owners to bring their dog to a game. Tickets for adults were $10 and $5 for dogs. Owners also had to sign a waiver accepting responsibility for anything done by their dog. Presumably folks would only bring along their well-behaved pet.

I took along Domino, my 3-year-old Italian Greyhound/Border Collie mix. The Thunder said there were about 122 dogs at the game, ranging from Shar Peis to Beagles to St. Bernards to German Shepherds.

My 20-pound dog was great to take along. He did not ask any questions about the game, get bored, ask me to buy him anything or whine to leave early. He was content to curl up on the seat next to me and place his head in my lap. During the two intermissions, we went outside so he could go to the bathroom, stretch his legs and get fawned over by other dog lovers.

As for the game, the ECHL Thunder defeated Idaho 4-0 in one of the best games I have seen the Thunder play.

In the video below, I am walking with Domino and showing off a little by having him sit and shake hands.
