Lodi Unified held its reorganization meeting on Tuesday night, and installed Ron Freitas as Area 6 Trustee.
- Freitas is a Chief Deputy District Attorney. He oversees the violent crimes unit. His family was on hand, and he was sworn in by his friend and Judge Seth Hoyt. He thanked the board for appointing him as Michael Abdallah left the board, and was fairly vocal during his first meeting – specifically in talking about agricultural studies. Freitas said he majored in Ag, and pledged his support for Future Farmer’s of America right off the bat.
- Trustees appointed Ralph Womack board president for 2013. Womack had just won re-election after serving one year as an appointed replacement for long-lost trustee Ken Davis (Davis unceremoniously skipped town after 20 years on the board). Womack is a retired Stockton Police captain who now runs the department’s Peacekeepers gang intervention program.
- It’s should be noted that Womack and Freitas really change the dynamic of the Board of Trustees. In 2010, the board was comprised of five retired teachers, a retired firefighter who is married to a vocal district teacher, and Davis. Womack and Freitas are criminal justice experts that bring a different perspective.
