UPDATE: Lodi resident unable to save palms

Date palm trees that line Hutchins Street will likely be cut down. (photo by Craig Sanders)

UPDATE (3:14 p.m. Friday) The palm trees were cut down Friday morning.

It looks like eight palm trees – seven date palms and one fan palm – will be cut down as the City of Lodi begins a street-widening project on South Hutchins Street next week.

Resident Abby Racco has worked diligently with the city in recent weeks to find takers for the palms, which are relatively easy to be uprooted and re-planted elsewhere.

The cost to remove the trees is estimated to be between $1,000 and $5,000 each. Interested parties could not afford to take them.
