UOP to stage ballet folklorico concert

Pacific’s first ballet folklorico concert will feature the university’s folklorico dance group Los Danzantes de Pacific and the Stockton-based Ballet Folklórico de Frank Zapata. The groups will perform traditional dances from several states in Mexico. The concert, “Las Voces de Nuestros Antepasados (The Voices of Our Ancestors) is at 7 p.m. Saturday in Faye Spanos Concert Hall on University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $5 for Pacific students and children younger than 12.

The Voices of our Ancestors is Pacific’s first community event highlighted as part of the university’s Latino Heritage Month Calendar. The Latino Outreach Office and Los Danzantes de Pacific are proud to introduce this cultural event to both the campus and wider Stockton community. In collaboration with the Ballet Folklórico de Frank Zapata, attendees will have a unique experience learning about particular regional dances and traditions from several states of Mexico through the performances. The performances reflect the historical significance of relationships between peoples from across the globe that have come to settle along the coastline and traveled further inland, leaving imprints in the Mexican songs and dances being performed for children, adults, grandparents; young and old alike. In addition, the community partnerships extend to the Chavez Mariachi of our local Cesar Chavez High School and Grupo Folklórico Mixtlán from Modesto.
