Concerts and nightlife around the 209, June 26-27

One of my colleagues reports that the tenant of the storefront on the north side of O’Ryleigh’s in Stockton has applied for a liquor license as the California Street Bar and Grill. That block along California Street also includes Taste and is an ideal location for nightclubs and bars downtown. It’s a good distance away from any residential development as well as Janet Leigh Plaza, where teens gather at night outside City Centre Cinemas 16. Keep an eye on it.

Here’s what’s up this weekend.

Bad Boy Bill at AquaThe biggest event Saturday will go down at Aqua in Modesto, where Bad Boy Bill will be on the turntables. The Chicago DJ and former XFest headliner is a electronic music pioneer who’s been credited with creating the first mass-produced mixtape. He’s also repeatedly been voted one of America’s best DJs. Click the flier for more about his set at Aqua.

Other events Saturday:

Ceres: DAM and more at the Whitmore Mansion.

Modesto: DTP, Dazeafter and Broken Trojan followed by Kamikaze Party at Fat Cat; Orquesta Salson at Club Max in the Doubletree Hotel; Bring the Heat party at Copper Rhino; Beeda Weeda CD release party at Modesto Sports Bar.

Tracy: Jason Andors and others comedy at the Great Plate.

Manteca: Zerx Comedy Dance Jam at Rookie’s.

Stockton: Brassai, the Wannabe Trio and others at The Plea for Peace Center; Shaila Durcal at Stockton Arena; Comedy, Coronas and Salsa music at Chitiva’s; Godzilla party at Taste; Filthy Tone at Fat’s.

Soaked at the DoubletreeHigh temperatures are slated to be in the upper 90s on Sunday, which makes it perfect weather for Flyboys‘ first Soaked pool party of the summer. The event at the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto is slated to run from noon until 7 p.m. and feature seven DJs on the turntables during the afternoon. It also promises to offer floating beer pong in the pool. How does that work anyway? To make it fair, I think you’d have to use buckets or some sort of larger receptacle instead of cups. Otherwise, you’d never drink. Anyhoo, you can hit up Flyboys by 9 a.m. Sunday to get on the guest list and get in for $5. The party continues every other Sunday this summer; click the flier for more.

Other events Sunday:

Stockton: The Spirit of Michael Jackson at the Bob Hope Theatre; Lemuria and others at The Plea for Peace Center.
