Concerts and nightlife around the 209, May 27-June 1, abbrev.

The Grouch at Fat CatI’ve had to neglect this blog recently so I could focus on my day job, which unfortunately meant skipping last week’s Around the 209 post. It was one of the biggest weekends for entertainment and music in the area so far this year; events included the huge Groovefest party at Tiki Lounge, Benjamin Bratt’s appearance at The State Theatre for the “La Mission” screening and Nashville Pussy’s concert at Fat Cat.

My feelings on missing all this are best summed up by the following emoticon:

:-(

I’m all :-( today as well, as my busy schedule leading up to this Memorial Day weekend means I’m also going to have to cut this week’s Around the 209 short.

But I’m not going to leave you completely empty-handed. You’ll find my list of this weekend’s concerts and parties below.

I’ve also got some pretty cool concert announcements for the future:

Authorities in StocktonOld-school Stockton punk band Authorities will headline punk rock hump day at the Plea for Peace Center June 23, a day before they’ll open for Pavement at the Bob Hope Theatre. The band recently reunited and has been performing around the world.

And on June 18, The Grouch of Living Legends will perform at Fat Cat.

I’ll let that sink in for a week. Here’s this weekend’s listings; If you want your event featured in this blog in the future, you can send me a Facebook invite, post it as a comment on www.myspace.com/ianhill or Tweet your info with @209Vibe. You can also leave it as a comment on this blog post.
