Around Stockton on a Friday night: Photos and video

My original plan for last Friday night was a bit ambitious.

I was going to stop by the Hudson Criminal CD release show at the Plea for Peace Center in Stockton at about 8 p.m. before heading to Modesto to catch the Off the Air concert at Deva. From there I wanted to go to Hero’s to see Eligh and Scarub of Living Legends.

Then it was back to Stockton for L’Jay and San Quinn at the Brickhouse, the Fat Friday party at Chitiva’s and finally, Random Nights’ party at Taste.

Like I said, ambitious.

As 8 p.m. approached, however, I realized I had unfairly omitted the Mike Torres Band’s show at Fat’s in Stockton from my itinerary. That’s when I realized I was in over my head.

I was going to have to make a choice between Stockton and Modesto.

I chose Stockton, and I’m glad I did. (Although I still have much love for Modesto, and I’m sure I’ll be there soon. I’ll definitely be at Deva March 19 for the not an Airplane CD release party.)

Here are video and photos showing what went down Friday at the Plea for Peace Center, Fat’s, Chitiva’s and Taste. They show some of the fun that can be had in the diverse local music and nightlife scene, from a hardcore punk show at Plea for Peace to the Latin, pop and party music of the Mike Torres Band to the electronic dance scene in Taste’s red room.

(Note: It was very dark in Taste – it is a club, after all – and I brightened the video as best I could, which pixelated the heck out of it. But I think it looks pretty cool.)
