Wine and Roses and romance
Wine and Roses Restaurant in Lodi recently was named the Sacramento/Central Valley’s most popular romantic dining destination on OpenTable’s area favorites list.
OpenTable, a Web site on which diners make restaurant reservations, announced the Sacramento/Central Valley Diner’s Choice list, which included what OpenTable reviews ranked as the area’s best restaurants.
In addition to its No. 1 mention, [...]

More photos from Stockton Skate Park
Stockton skateboarder Terry Silasack, above, is either extremely brave or extremely crazy. A grandmother from Tracy who called me this morning after seeing Silasack’s photo in The Record probably believes the latter. She asked why he wasn’t wearing a helmet when he was launching himself three or four feet in the air off the ramp [...]
MAGNIFIQUE
You didn’t have to watch the Olympics on Thursday and see America’s teenage skaters to be awed by the high school set. They’re alive and well and on stage at Delta’s Tillie Lewis Theatre.
St. Mary’s production of “Les Miserables” is must-see theatre. That a group of high school students could deliver this complex, dramatic, challenging production [...]

Around Stockton on a Friday night: Photos and video
My original plan for last Friday night was a bit ambitious.

I’ve got 30 local parties and concerts listed on my calendar for the next week, so there’s no need for you to stay home, shut the shades and buy into Forbes’ hype about Stockton and Modesto being among America’s most miserable cities.
Two of the busiest venues will be Copper Rhino and Clayton’s in Modesto. Tonight [...]

Been there, done that, not miserable
I should be an expert on misery. That’s what I get from Forbes’ list of America’s 20 Most Miserable Cities.
I grew up in Buffalo, N.Y., which is no. 8 on the list. I also spent a summer in New York City (no. 16), and from 2000-2005 I lived in Youngstown, Ohio (no. 18). In total [...]
Ahh-vocado
In the LENS section today, we share a story about the underused avocado. It’s not just for guacamole, and we have some recipes that will help you expand your Hass horizons.
CHICKEN PAILLARDS WITH AVOCADO-POMEGRANATE SALSA
Look for pomegranate molasses at specialty stores. If you can’t find it, boil down some pomegranate juice until it’s glaze-like or [...]
