A holiday treat spread of epic proportions is currently gracing a table in the middle of the newsroom. When I arrived at 8:30 a.m., there was an offering of different breads and cream cheese. Then the candied popcorn balls were set down. Then cookies. Then more cookies. And brownies.
It’s 10:22 a.m. now and there’s an entire table full of goodies, including a ton of cookies from editor Mike Klocke’s daughter Megan and her friend Liz. They even decorated a reindeer in the middle of one of the platters.
I won’t forget the fabulous homemade candied popcorn balls. I told LENS editor Robin Nichols that if you closed your eyes when you took a bite it would remind you of being at a carnival midway.
I’m sure there’s too much food here to be eaten by the day staff. Our night staff comes in early today, which is a good thing. We’re going to need all the help we can get eating all of these offerings.
A woman called me yesterday expecting to get my voicemail. “I’m sorry you’re at work during Christmas week,” she said. I’m not. I love working during the holiday season, specifically for the culinary and creative talents of my co-workers.
If this yummy goodness doesn’t make your mouth water, you’re definitely not a foodie.
