Concerts and nightlife around the 209, Dec. 3-8

CORRECTION Dec. 7, 2009: I See Stars performs Monday and Alesana plays Tuesday at the Stockton Empire Theatre. The shows originally were listed as being held a day earlier.

General admission tickets are sold out for tonight’s B92.9 Acoustic Christmas show in downtown Modesto, so if you want to attend you’re going to have to pony up $100 for preferred seating in the first two rows. Of course, that’s probably more than most local music fans will be willing to pay for acts like Third Eye Blind (photo at right by Benjamin D. Esham via Wikipedia Commons), Mat Kearney, A Fine Frenzy and Ingrid Michaelson. The better bet is to take your $100, head to a downtown bar and wait for the post-concert crowd to come out and party. Click here for more information about the concert. Doors open at 6 p.m., so if the afternoon commute downtown is a mess, that’s why.

The Stockton Pub Crawls continue to be a bright spot for that city’s (emerging? struggling? insert your preferred adjective here) nightlife scene. The themed events bring between 300-500 typically well-behaved partiers to local nightspots for fun and cheap or free beer and appetizers. (Photo at left courtesy the Downtown Stockton Alliance.) Trolleys are provided to take crawlers from bar-to-bar, helping to keep the roads safe. This Saturday’s crawl is titled Crawl for a Claus, and event-goers will be encouraged to dress like the big man from the North Pole. Proceeds from the crawl will benefit local charities. Click here for tickets and more info.

If the pub crawl isn’t real enough for you, head to Banana Joe’s in Modesto Saturday where you can keep it even realer with several local rappers. The bill includes Ren Da Heat Monsta, Spitflame Fam, Purp Reynolds and Cory Smackz. It’ll be straight from the Stockton streets to your ears.

The fun doesn’t stop when the bars close for the weekend. Several acts are set to perform during tour stops Monday and Tuesday at the Stockton Empire Theatre (linked!). On Monday, it’s the Leave It To The Suits tour headlined by I See Stars; on Tuesday, it’s the You’d Be Way Cuter in a Coffin tour (best. tour name. ever.) headlined by Alesana. Both shows are being promoted by Goodbye Productions, which continues to draw hundreds of music fans to the Empire for concerts that feature emerging independent hardcore/electronica/metal/rock bands. If that’s your scene, a Goodbye show is always worth checking out.

The list below includes more noteworthy concerts and nightlife events being held this week and in the future around the 209. If you want your event featured on this list in the future, you can send me a Facebook invite or Tweet your info with @209Vibe.
