Still looking for a New Year’s Eve dinner reservation?

Given my travel woes and Christmas shopping over the past few weeks, I just couldn’t find the time to make a New Year’s Eve dinner reservation until yesterday. I started by calling Stockton establishments that offer a traditional NYE dining experience, in that you can be dressy casual (thanks, Robin!) and enjoy a good glass [...]

Concerts and nightlife around the 209, New Year’s Eve edition

My colleague Aaron Davis wrote a detailed wrap-up of Stockton-area New Year’s Eve events that you can find here; the Modesto Bee’s NYE listings, meanwhile, can be found here and here. You’ll notice that two of the three stories highlight the Moonshine Bandits‘ show at Fat Cat in Modesto, which could be the area’s biggest [...]

It’s set to go down Jan. 22, when rap legend Too Short is set to perform at The Palladium and hyphy godfather E-40 is scheduled to take the mic at Fat Cat. Hopefully, the shows are a sign that 2010 will be a great year for hip-hop fans in the 209. Come back to the LENS [...]

The newsroom holiday treat spread

A holiday treat spread of epic proportions is currently gracing a table in the middle of the newsroom. When I arrived at 8:30 a.m., there was an offering of different breads and cream cheese. Then the candied popcorn balls were set down. Then cookies. Then more cookies. And brownies. It’s 10:22 a.m. now and there’s an [...]

Students ask Santa to help charities

Sixth-grade students in Angie Parodi’s class at Mosher Elementary School in North Stockton wrote letters to Santa Claus asking the jolly big man to help out local charities this year instead of filling their stockings with toys. The students touched on several local organizations in need. Here’s a look at some of the letters they wrote.

Copper Rhino in Stockton, Brandon Tyler, Tracy cheerleading video and much more

In the news biz they call this a notebook dump; it’s several smaller items I’ve been planning to write about for awhile rolled into one post. I’m not a big fan of the term notebook dump, though. You can suggest a better title in a comment on this post. • Copper Rhino, one of Modesto’s biggest [...]
