Thanksgiving Eve is typically a busy time for bars and clubs across the country, as working stiffs looking forward to a day off mix with college students home for the holidays to create a big crowd of party-goers. You’ll probably be able to have fun and see some interesting people at any bar around the 209 tonight.
Among the busiest local venues will be Modesto’s Fat Cat Music House and Lounge, which is hosting the Moonshine Bandits (right). The rap group from Los Banos has attracted a dedicated following with its country beats and party-first attitude. The show starts at 7 p.m. and also includes Hardnox, Bonus Traxx, Tory-D and Jabberjaw. The rap acts will be followed at 9 p.m. by DJs Daniel Mendez, Weak Sas, Recess and Ill Eagle.
If this weekend you’re looking for a fun way to work off those extra Thanksgiving calories, or you didn’t get your fill of pushing and shoving on Black Friday, head to the Stockton Empire Theatre Friday night to check out A Skylit Drive. (Photo at left by Ariel Zambelich/The Record.) The Lodi screamo act is arguably San Joaquin County’s biggest and energetic draw, as its shows typically pack the 600-seat Empire. Many crowd into the pit at the front of the stage to work out some aggression while they enjoy the music. The show starts at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, put some ice on your bruises from the ASD show and head to Modesto to check out Hand Born. Billed as a “Modern Craft Bazaar,” Hand Born features live music, DJs and more than 40 local artisans selling unique holiday gifts. Finally, start your holiday season off with a laugh at Insane Wayne and Te’s comedy show at Fat’s in Stockton. The bill will be headlined by Daniel Dugar, who has opened for Damon Wayans, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley. Dugar also has appeared on HBO and BET.
