Delta College Athletics Update

Mustang volleyball is ranked 7th in the state, 3rd in NorCal, and are 5-0 in the Big 8.  Delta has two wrestlers ranked top six in the state, Greg Viloria (4th at 125) and Branden Rullan (6th at 141).  Men’s soccer is tied for 2nd in the Big 8 and women’s soccer is 13th in the state in power points.

Home events this week are:  Tuesday – Men’s Soccer vs MJC at 4:00; Wednesday – Men’s water polo at 3:30, Women’s water polo at 5:00 (Both vs Santa Rosa); and Friday Volleyball vs MJC at 6:30.

Women’s Golf:  The team finishing 6th at 397 on September 21st at Big 8 Conference #3 in Napa.  Delta individuals: Rebeca Leonard 96, Ashliegh Esau 97, Legacy Barnes 99, Natalie Shepherd 105, Lexus Barnes 107, and Lauren Ellcessor 108.   On September 24-25 they competed in the North-South Invitational at Morro Bay finishing in 11th place with a two-day score of 755.  Tomorrow they compete at the Jan High Invitational in Sacramento.

Men’s Soccer:   The team is currently 7-2-2 overall and 1-0-2 in Big 8 play.  The began the Big 8 schedule with a 2-0 win over Consumnes River followed by 1-1 ties vs Folsom Lake and American River.  This week they are home on Tuesday at 4:00 vs Modesto and play at Santa Rosa on Friday.

Women’s Soccer:  The team is currently 6-1-4 overall and 2-1-3 in Big 8 play.  Recently they defeated Modesto 2-1, lost 1-4 to Sierra, and won 7-0 over Sac City.  This week they are away at American River on Friday.

Women’s and Men’s Cross Country:  At the Modesto Invitational on September 29th the men finished in 5th with Raymond Lozano as the highest finisher at 10th.  The women finished in 6th with Emily Simons as the highest finisher at 18th.   They compete again at the Toro Park Invitational this Friday.

Football:  They team lost their last two games by a one point.  Versus #5 state ranked Siskiyous, the Mustangs scored as time ran out and fell short on a two-point conversion attempt losing 34-35.   This past Saturday they lost 30-31 as Diablo Valley scored in the last minute of the game.  They finish the non-league schedule at 2-3 and have this weekend off.  They begin the Valley League schedule with a home game on Saturday October 14th at 1:00 vs Laney College.

Volleyball:  The Mustangs are ranked 7th in the State with12-2 overall record and a perfect 5-0 record in Big 8 play. They swept their last four matches 3-0 vs Sac City, American River, Diablo Valley, and Consumnes River. This Friday they are home vs Modesto at 6:30.

Men’s Water Polo:  They are 10-6 overall and 2-0 in Big 8 play. At the Cuesta Tournament they defeated Cuesta 7-6, lost 11-12 to Riverside, 9-12 to Golden West, and 4-17 to LA Valley. This week they defeated Modesto 13-8.  On Saturday they lost to West Hills 8-15 and beat  Cabrillo 17-4.  This week they are home vs Santa Rosa at 3:30 on Wednesday.

Women’s Water Polo:  They are 11-7 overall and 3-0 in Big 8 play.  Recently in Big 8 competitions they defeated American River 8-3 and Modesto 11-3.   They took a trip south this past weekend and played 6 games over a 3-day period.  They split with Riverside (8-7, 3-5), lost to Citrus (5-10) and Orange Coast (11-12).  On the final day of the trip they finished with wins over Fullerton (12-7) and Cuesta (12-3).  This week they have one game at home on Wednesday vs Santa Rosa at 5:00.

Wrestling:  Delta has several wrestlers ranked in the state with Greg Viloria (4th at 125), Branden Rullan (6th at 141), Carlos Vasquez (Honorable Mention at 157) and the team ranked at 12th in the State.  They competed this past weekend at the Santa Ana Tournament.  The team finished in 7th place with three individual placers.  The place winners were Greg Viloria (3rd at 125), Branden Rullan (4th at 141) and Dylan Kranich (4th at 184).  They compete again this weekend at the Modesto Tournament.
