Delta College Athletics Update

In both men’s and women’s water polo Delta College and Sierra College are undefeated in Big 8 conference play.  On Wednesday Delta travels to Sierra for this important water polo double header.  Mustang Women’s Soccer is on a 4-game win streak and has moved up to 4th in the state power rankings. 

 

Mustang Football has their first home game in a while this Saturday at 1:00 vs Chabot.  We are inviting fans to tailgate before the game from 11:30-1:00 in the Athletic parking lot.  This is also a Pack the House and Faculty Appreciation game. 

 

We have plenty of other home events this week.  Tuesday – Women’s soccer vs MJC at 4:00, Wednesday – Wrestling vs Sierra at 5:00, Thursday – Women’s Golf Big 8 #8 at   Swenson Golf Course at noon, Friday – Men’s soccer at 4:00 vs Clovis and Women’s Volleyball at 6:30 vs Modesto. 

 

Women’s Golf:   Last week the team competed in Big 8 #6 in Chico on Tuesday (5th place with 390) and Big 8 #7 in Sacramento on Thursday (6th place with 374).   Delta Individuals #6: Taylor Robinson 83, Natalie Tsutsumi 91, Rebecca Leonard 99, and Kaitlea Maestas 117. Delta Individuals #7: Natalie Tsutsumi 83, Taylor Robinson 89, Rebecca Leonard 90, and Kaitlea Maestas 112.  This week they are finally at home with Big 8 #8 at Swenson Golf course at noon on Thursday.

Men’s Soccer:  The team lost two 0-3 games this week to West Hills (Tuesday) and Fresno (Saturday). This week they are away at the College of Sequoias on Tuesday and home on Friday vs Clovis at 4:00.

Women’s Soccer:  The Mustangs defeated CRC at home on Tuesday 1-0 and then won 2-0 at Sierra on Saturday.  The team is 11-2-1 and ranked 4th in the state and 2nd in the Big 8.

They are home this Tuesday at 4:00 vs Modesto. On Saturday they are away at Evergreen Valley.

Women’s and Men’s Cross Country:  On Friday at Shasta’s Think Pink Run in Redding the women finished in 3rd place and the men in 5th place.  For the women Maria Ramirez finished in 3rd place while the top men’s finisher was Adam Brooks.  The teams have this week off as they prepare for the Big 8 Championships on October 28th.

Football:  The Mustangs began Valley League play with a 34-57 loss at Laney.  For the first time in 3 weeks the team competes at home this Saturday vs Chabot.  This is a Pack the House and Faculty Appreciation game.

Volleyball:  At home on Wednesday the team defeated Diablo Valley in 3 sets.  At Sacramento City on Friday they lost in 3 sets.  This week they are away at Santa Rosa on Wednesday and play at home vs MJC on Friday at 6:30. The team is currently 13-5.

Men’s Water Polo:  On Wednesday they won an important home game vs Big 8 rival Diablo Valley 12-11.  This Wednesday they play at Sierra.  The winner will be the #1 team in the Big 8.  This weekend they will be heading south to play in the Golden West Invitational.

Women’s Water Polo:  Last week the team went 3-0.  On Wednesday they defeated Diablo Valley 14-4.  On Saturday the won 13-1 over Las Positas and 16-10 over Foothill.  This Wednesday they play Sierra in a battle of the top two teams in the Big 8 Conference.  This weekend they travel to Long Beach for the Battle of the Beach Tournament.

Wrestling:  On Saturday they competed in the NorCal Dual Championships at Santa Rosa going 2-3 for the day and finishing in 8th place. They defeated Sierra 27-24 and Shasta 36-9 while losing to Sac City 6-47, Lassen 6-35, and Skyline 6-45.  Justin Loveall was 4-1 at 197, Ian Morken 3-0 at 141, Dao Tep 2-1 at 149, and Stephen Dixon was 2-1 at 184.  This Wednesday they are home vs Sierra at 5:00.  On Saturday they compete at the Cuesta Invitational.
