NCAA begins their stint in Stockton

2016 will mark the first of three consecutive years that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will be in Stockton.  Hosting a NCAA event is a prestigious rite of passage for a University and a City.  It is not easy to be awarded the right to host an event, let alone four events in three years.  However, Stockton has been awarded this right and it is time to show the NCAA just how thankful we are.

The events Stockton has been awarded are:

  • 2016 Division II Women’s Golf Super-Regionals (at Brookside Golf & Country Club)
  • 2017 Division I Women’s Basketball Regionals (at Stockton Arena)
  • 2017 Division II Men’s Golf Western Regionals (at Brookside Golf & Country Club)
  • 2018 Division I Men’s Golf Regionals (at The Reserve at Spanos Park)

Although the biggest event of the four is definitely the Women’s Basketball Regionals, each of these events are just as important as the other.  The events must be executed flawlessly by the host facility, the host hotel(s), and the staff assigned to the event…but most importantly, community involvement is crucial.  The NCAA wants their student-athletes and participating institutions to feel welcomed into the community and for there to be an excitement surrounding the event.

The golf events are 100% free to attend and observe, even if you go out for an hour to check out the play, to observe the athletes at the driving range, or to see the course yourself, please do head out there.

Although the basketball event is not free to attend, the tickets will be very reasonably priced.  Those of us charged with planning and operating the event have taken on the challenge of making sure our regional (we are 1 of 4 of them occurring over the same weekend) has the highest attendance of any of them.  That is our chance to show the nation we are excited to serve as a host on national television.  Mark your calendars now for that weekend, plan on coming out and cheering on some of the best basketball teams in the country.
