A very active time for Delta College Athletics

Hello.  Today I’m going report on last year’s athletic season for San Joaquin Delta College and update you on some of our upcoming home competitions.

The 2013-14 season was the most successful year in the history of the Mustang Athletic Department!  This athletic success led to a 9th place finish in the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup. This award recognizes the success of athletic departments based on team placement at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) championships.  There are over 100 CCCAA Colleges. Here are some quick highlights from the season:


  • Seven sports finished top 8 in the state:
    • Baseball – 2nd
    • Women’s Basketball – 3rd
    • Men’s Water Polo – 5th
    • Volleyball – 5th
    • Softball – 5th
    • Men’ Track & Field – 8th
    • Women’s Track and Field – 8th
    • Three teams won the Big 8 Championships
      • Women’s Basketball
      • Baseball
      • Women’s Track & Field
      • Over 20 student-athletes received All State/All American honors
      • Over 60 Student-athletes received All Big 8 Conference honors

More significantly the Mustang student-athletes succeeded in the classroom and in transferring to four year institutions.

  • Over 40% of Delta student-athletes had over a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Over 50 Delta student-athletes committed/signed to continue their educations and athletic careers at 4-year institutions.
  • Delta student-athletes graduate at 3 times the rate of general Delta students
  • Delta student-athletes transfer at twice the rate of general Delta students

Some upcoming home events for our Fall season teams include:

  • Big 8 Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Championships from November 6-8.
  • Last home football game on Saturday November 1st at 1:00 vs Fresno City
  • The state ranked (#12) Mustang women’s volleyball team has 6:30 games on November 5th vs Diablo Valley, November 7th vs American River, and November 14th vs. Modesto.
  • Wrestling has their last home dual meet on November 12th at 7:00 vs Sierra.
  • Men’s soccer has their final home game on October 31st at 3:00 vs Santa Rosa.
  • Women’s soccer has their final home game on November 4that 3:00 vs Sierra.
    • Home soccer games are at Gardemeyer Field at UOP (see below video).
