Delta Athletics – College sports with a local flair

Hello.  If you are looking to see high level student-athletes competing in a variety of sports, then come and support the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs.  Most of our team members are former local high school student-athletes that you may already be familiar with.

Our Mustang Sports Calendar is posted here on the Delta College website:

Delta College offers 19 intercollegiate sports.  We compete in the Big 8, the toughest conference in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).  Many CCCAA student-athletes go on to compete at NCAA, NAIA and even the professional level.  Over the last two years Delta College has had close to one hundred of our student-athletes earn scholarships to four year colleges and universities.

In addition to our regular season schedule we also host Big 8 championships, NorCal playoff games, and CCCAA State Championships.  So far this season we hosted several NorCal playoff games in women’s basketball and volleyball as well as the State Championships for wrestling.

We have much information about our teams, staff and outstanding athletic facilities on our athletic website:

During the spring season we have baseball, softball, track & field (mw), swimming & diving (mw), and men’s golf competing.

Currently our Delta baseball program is ranked 1st in northern California and 8th in the nation among two-year colleges.  Softball is also having a good year being ranked as high as 8th in the state this season.  The next home games for both teams are vs Sierra College with baseball on 4/3 at 2:30 and softball on 4/8 at 3:00.

The Big 8 Championships for both track & field, and swimming & diving will be hosted at Delta College in April.  The swimming and diving is on April 17, 18, and 19th.  Morning sessions start at 10:00 and evening sessions at 5:00 (4:00 on the 19th).  Track and Field has the trials on April 22 from 3:00-7:00 and the finals on April 25 from 3:00-6:00.

Men’s and women’s basketball are our two winter season teams.  Both programs have a long history of success.  This season the women made the state final four and last season the men finished in the elite eight.

Fall is our busiest season with football, soccer (mw), water polo (mw), women’s volleyball, wrestling, cross country (mw), and women’s golf.

Delta football is the only collegiate football program in the Stockton area.  The Mustangs are one of the top programs in northern California and have won several bowl games in recent years.  Delta plays their home games on Saturday’s at 1:00 in the Lawrence DeRicco Football Stadium.

Soccer is a very popular sport in the Stockton area. This greatly benefits our men’s and women’s soccer programs.  Our women’s program has made the state playoffs the last two years and the men’s coach was the Big 8 coach of the year this season.

If you are short on time and want to see an exciting high scoring sporting event then come watch water polo (matches last about an hour).  This season our men’s team finished 5th in the State, and our women’s program had the highest ranked scorer in state.

Wrestling and women’s volleyball are our two indoor sports in the fall season.  Wrestling successfully hosted the state championship tournament this year.  Mustang women’s volleyball made it to the elite eight in the state playoffs this season.
