Local collegiate basketball teams make post-season runs

Basketball teams from San Joaquin Delta College and the University of the Pacific both made post-season runs this March, taking part in the annual madness, which is the alphabet soup of college basketball.

Delta College’s Women’s Basketball team made it all the way to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) final four competition before losing to Mt. Sac on March 14, ending their season. However, the team did manage to pick up the Big 8 Conference Championship title.

University of the Pacific saw both teams enter post-season competition with the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams competing in the West Coast Conference Championships in Las Vegas.

Following that tournament, the women’s basketball team found themselves in the WNIT (Women’s National Invitation Tournament), while the men’s team was offered a bid into the CIT (College Insiders Postseason Tournament).

The women’s basketball team took on Pac-12 powerhouse University of Oregon, in Oregon, and unfortunately did not advance past the first round of the WNIT. However, the men’s basketball team has found success in the CIT tournament, and after last night’s (3/26/14) victory against WCC rival, University of San Diego, is now poised to compete in the tournament’s semi-final round on Tuesday, April 1st. Be sure to visit the Pacific Athletics website for more information leading up to this exciting game.
