Softball and Baseball Take Over the City

There’s nothing like the noise of a baseball or softball hitting a glove. With spring in the air, baseball and softball teams throughout Stockton have started their games (or are starting soon) and fields across town are bustling with activity.

Although it sometimes goes without recognition, Stockton is a very busy softball and baseball city. Most people know our city is lucky enough to be the home of Banner Island (Stockton) Ballpark, where the Stockton Ports (Single-A Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics) play, and the facilities at both the University of the Pacific and San Joaquin Delta College, but there are many more complexes in town that are even busier.

Two of the busiest complexes in town are the Arnaiz Softball Complex and Billy Hebert Field.

At the intersection of Morada Lane and Holman Road lies the Arnaiz Softball Complex and Stadium. The complex, which was lucky enough to host the USA Olympic Softball Team in 2008, serves as host to countless softball tournaments on an annual basis.

Some of the organizations that use the Arnaiz Softball Complex facility include:

  • California Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division II)
  • California Grapettes Softball
  • Greater San Joaquin ASA Softball
  • Runnin’ Rebels Gold Softball
  • St. Mary’s High School Softball
  • and many more!

I encourage you to stop by on a Saturday in the summer to check out this wonderful facility, the meticulously groomed fields, and the barbequed steak sandwiches.

Located more towards the center of town, the historic Billy Hebert Field has been restored over the past three years and is busier than ever. JD Hardcastle of All Star Sports has spent countless hours improving the field, making it a very popular place for youth travel teams.

If you didn’t know already, Billy Hebert Field was the home of the Stockton Ports until 2005 when they made their move to Banner Island (Stockton) Ballpark. With a new field surface, paint job, and many other improvements, Billy Hebert Field will be hosting games for many years to come!

All of these organizations do a lot for the city of Stockton, local businesses, and hotels. If you are not familiar with them, take some time to explore the facilities and meet people from the organizations that run them.
