The Dirty Book Club

Quote of the month for October comes from Sally Tuttle, who was at the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors meeting last week because she is part of the Calaveras County Friends  of the Library. That group was being honored for completing 50 years of service. Tuttle was a founder and has been active these last five decades.

Reflecting on her volunteer library service before a packed Board of Supervisors chamber, she said “I am particularly proud of the Dirty Book Club.”

I’ve only lived up here full time about seven years, so I am not yet familiar with all the ideosyncratic local traditions. I asked Tuttle for clarification. She explained that she was part of a crew that cleaned books coated with years of dust and finger smudges.
